Its meant being familiar with the book, then I understand it. I’ve got a Penguin Popular Classics copy, I’m not sure how this differs from the fully illustrated or photo filled copies which I believe are more like The Joy of Sex by Alex Comfort.
I thought it was a great book, dealing not just with sexual union but society and social concepts and ancillary social issues, there’s a chapter entitled “about the wives of other men”. It’s not devoid of either spirituality or, I suspected when reading it, humour.
I thought it was really interesting how the whole topic of sex norms, mores, taboos and relationships had been conceptualised in a different culture at a different time.
Although there is insight in it yet for anyone who’s reading it was a guidebook rather than a history book, or so I think.
