I’m certain that it will be hard because where I’m taking two honors classes and when I get home from school I’m always so exhausted, but I really want to be a healthier person and since I’m not all too athletic, then taking a walk daily is my only choice. Plus, my dad always complains that I don’t get outside enough, so this will be a way to get him off my case.

I have started again 2 months ago

Three days in a row is a good start! I already walked quite a lot today but I will pitch in another walk tonight because it is a great way to think and dream. Walking is also working the secret at the same time, so two birds with one stone. Now I only have to be consistent. I am nto good at that but I will try my very best!

So, I’ve pretty much accepted the fact that I am not a weight lifting, treadmill running, calorie obsessing type. I always do this for a few months, but cannot maintain.

So, my new goal is to take a walk everyday. This I think I can do. Mostly because I can do it (almost) anywhere, and I won’t have to change or shower because of it.

So, here goes nothing!

I figured walking 1.5 miles in flip flops today wouldn’t be a problem, but by the end of my short walk, I had a huge blister forming. Bad idea! But I felt better for the walk, so no excuses tomorrow.

Somewhat limited.... 12 months ago

As I don’t drive and live on a rural lane that immediately runs into a busy highway, my walking options are limited. However, excuses are over! There is a route I can take starting from my front door and winding up another street that will be a good 30 minute walk I can do every day. I ordered new ear buds for my iPhone so I can listen to music and podcasts, as well as set a timer to make sure I’m walking as long as I intended to. I know 30 minutes every day isn’t much, but I hope to eventually supplement it with other things. I’m going to not make the mistake of expecting too much too soon, just getting in motion and developing a good habit is the idea here.

Shooting myself in the foot 13 months ago

This summer (2008), I’d begun walking nearly an hour every day. Mid-August I decided I wasn’t losing weight quickly enough so I began jogging a bit. Now there’s nothing wrong with jogging, but I decided to begin jogging in my sandals. I probably shouldn’t have even been walking long distances in these sandals. I soon developed a repetitive motion problem with my tendons and began limping. I think I ran three days. Long story short, I began with a two week round of Celebrex and am now taking cell salts and grape seed extract as well as doing hydrotherapy (hot water then cold water ankle baths) to heal. I might not be walking more than daily activities for awhile. Sigh.

(8/3/08) I really really need to start walking. I just can’t seem to get myself motivated. Maybe because it’s like 95 degrees outside.

Something strange happened 18 months ago

when I was walking to the supermarket a woman’s purse got stolen right behind me. I saw the guy as he passed me by and then he just walked a little faster and grabbed her handbag. She, a mid age lady, was amazing! She screamed, ran after him and because she got noticed he threw away her purse and she got it back. I was in the meanwhile trying to phone the police. Probably a lot of people now think ‘what is so strange about this, happens here all the time’ but the strange thing was that this thief was so young and he smiled at me and was kind of cute.I always think of thiefs as scary, big old guys and not of cute teenagers or twentysomethingers, so my prejudices have caught up with me today… In any case, no purses or handbags for me! Sticking to the backpack! Not elegant but effective! And a big cheer for assertive middle age ladies who want back what is theirs anyway! Way to go!
