How do we meet people with roots?
How I did it: When I married Stephen he helped me get in touch with his friends' wives and through them I met other wives and girlfriends, and now I know some really great people. I don't know what I would do without my new friends. They really understand the ups and downs of a military marriage and deployments.
Lessons & tips: Be friendly and open. Honesty is always good. Try to make it to dinners and parties your friends host, or host a couple yourself and tell them to invite other fun people they think you'd get along with. Sometimes just one or two girls is great, you can cook something together or just veg out in front of a chick flick. You don't have to go out on the town and spend a lot of money to have a great time.
Resources: The Navy, my wonderful and understanding friends, my sweet husband, cocktails, my peanut butter cheesecake, fun dinners, board games, rock band, and hours of laughter and bonding.

I love my girls! Tuesday is dinner at Carmels with martinis. I’m starting to feel downright adult.. I never thought that would happen.
Ever since I’ve started my meds and can go out in public without shitting a brick, I’ve felt so much more comfortable about calling up the girls I want to hang out with. I’ve been so lucky to have Bree here in town with me, she’s helped me through some of the worst times in my life and has always kept me positive. And I’m really glad I overcame my initial shyness and started calling Christy, her and I laugh so hard when we get together! I don’t feel like I need some sort of huge entourage, but if I could find more great girls like these, I would be the luckiest chick!
As much as i love what i do and enjoy doing it, i need more of a social life. Right now i work from home and work odd hours, and when i’m not working i’m following tutorials and stuff, trying to beat the competition. This is not the same as living, i think. But i guess it’s helped me padd out my CV..
But i’d like to be get out more and make more friends, eseciall girlfriends i can talk to about non-geek things.
