Skiing in Southern CA can mean slushy or icy snow and for a beginner like myself it just seemed like a really dumb idea to move up to the intermediate slope that day. There are actually two different levels of intermediate…low and high. I AM skiing the lower level intermediate but I also know that my intention for this goal was to ski the higher level.
We may have plans to go to Brianhead this winter. We’ll see.

Two years ago, Kevin decided that we needed to go to Big Bear and rent a cabin and go skiing for Valentine’s Day. It was one of the best trips I’ve ever taken. You can read more about it and see pictures here. Suffice to say that skiing+jacuzzi=FUN.
We were supposed to make it an annual trip however my dad discovered that he had bladder cancer this year and had major surgery right around Valentine’s Day. Unless something comes up this year I can bet we’ll be there again. And I am going to be skiing those intermediate slopes in no time.

On my recent trip to Mt Hotham, I was taking “Level 4” lessons- which I have decided is equivalent to skiing at the intermediate level.
There are 6 levels of lessons- at Level 4, we were working on parallel skiing. I can do it quite successfully, but that pesky snow-plow comes back when the conditions are yucky, or I’m on steep terrain, or a pesky snowboarder cuts in front of me and I want to stop before I wipe him out.
I skied mostly on blue and green runs this year. Because there wasn’t a lot of snow, there weren’t a lot of runs open, and I wasn’t going to attempt the black(difficult) runs, because they were icy and yucky.
