We have lots of cubicles on our floor. We all have our little four-foot-tall sections of the corporate maze in which we can sit and work, but there is one enclosed office on our floor - a glass-walled space that belongs to an over-the-top Frenchman who has the daunting and unenviable task of answering for the lot of us. So he gets his little office in which he can go in and close the door if need be. Now everyone loves Nic, not the least because his accent is so charming in our world of “fixin’ tos” and “y’alls”. So one Nic birthday, a group of us blew up a bunch of balloons and totally filled his office with balloons and then we wrapped the outer walls with colorful paper and ribbons like it was some enormous birthday present. He loved it - even more than the year we filled the halls with tombstones and black crepe ribbons upon his turning 40.

Totally worth it. 6 years ago
