open a hostel

Hello, my dream to is to open a series of hostels around the world, so that I am not stuck in one place for the rest of my life. I currently reside in SF and have a family owned 5 bedroom 2 bath house that I would like to convert into a small hostel or bed and breakfast. Its in the Castro area of San Francisco which would make it a very good niche market. Just not sure how to develop or expand into that arena. I am a banker by trade, so the world of hotel/hostel management is a little foreign to me. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of mine is currently working on helping people open up hostels. She’s looking for people like yourself who want to open up their own hostel but are unsure of everything that goes into the process of opening up a hostel. I’m currently helping her find people to talk to, kind of get a small community going to discuss everyone’s needs, and was wondering if any of you wouldn’t mind being a part of this mini-hostelling movement :-)

I travel a bit myself and have always wished that more hostelling options were available here in the states. I think you all could do some amazing things if you got together and figured out a way to get this thing going. i would love to, at some point, open up a hostel in an area of the world that i feel like needs assistance and is open to my business…...i have stayed in hostels in over 30 countries and feel that i could successfully provide a backpacker friendly place and in addition environmentally friendly and sensitive to the local culture

I want open my own hostal in tulum mexico living the dream of my life.

At least this is my idea of the week….opening an eco-lodge …maybe a few in different countries. Obviously I would need to do mucho research on green building/living before this can ever happen and find some $$investors$$

if someone would like open a backpackers’ hostel in Italy…tell me something..it’s my dream and foreigners are welcome

I would like to open a hostel in Massachusetts. It may be a couple more years before I am able to though…

I’d like to fast-forward my life and be 50 years old and own a hostel here in the US. I’d love to have one in NYC, but with the price of property here, that’s not likely to happen. I’m thinking it will be near a national park, maybe in the desert. I’m even considering doing graduate studies in hospitality administration.
I’ve started a book/journal to track my progress in achieving this goal.
