Long Term, but a plan none the less 17 months ago

So I have set myself a long term goal to escape cubicle life by Christmas of 2009. About a year and half of saving, building my business and setting myself up for sucess!

Possibility 18 months ago

I’m trying to get everything together and start selling items on Etsy. This might just be a career making a living doing something I love! Cross your fingers for me!

I found it! 19 months ago

I found something I love and it’s nothing I ever expected. Who knew I would go from seamstress/preschool teacher to the bookkeeper & account manager of my preschool?

2 books I highly recommend: Do What You Are
and Discover What You’re Best At

I started looking into an online Masters in Library Science that is approved by the ALA, I can get my masters in a year, two if I go part time. it would be perfect for me, but I wouldn’t be able to start until Summer ‘08. The plus side is that the classes are at night, so I can still work during the day. I have a while to figure out if this is as good as it seems to me but it sounds like being a librarian will combine the best parts of teaching with a love of literature. Yea!

I may be about to check this off the list 3 years ago

I love my new job. But I want to be sure it’s not the novelty of it. I gotta make sure I’m still just as happy in another month or so. But so far I just love it—so much that sometimes when the store owner is in the room I want to be like, “Have I told you lately that I love this job?”

Literary Manager 3 years ago

I love working on new plays and working with the writer to make their ideas more solid and the whole workshop process. I’d love to be a literary manager but that again is like anything in theatre that you have to work at it for free for so many years before you might actually start getting paid to do it. So here I go, I am starting working at it for free, maybe 10 years from now I will be getting a paycheck from it.

Another idea... 3 years ago

I got the idea today that maybe what I’d really like to do is event planning. I am super organized and detail oriented and I like planning theatre events,... so why not event planning? I’ve been doing some research into the ins and outs but it definately seems like I’d need a car (something I haven’t felt the need to get due to the convenience of public transportation in Chi-town). But it would be very rewarding as I am definitely one of those people who likes to see the fruits of my labor before me. Crazy stressful at time I’m sure, but I deal well with that sort of thing.

I got a new job! 3 years ago

I had an interview yesterday and I start tomorrow! I’ll be working as a seamstress at a small bridal shop and may also do some sales. It pays much better than my current job and has flexilble hours. This way I can keep my current job until December so I can keep my (crappy) insurance.

I was walking around all these small boutiques in Roscoe Village over the weekend and I was noticing that scarves and knit hats that are incredibly simple to make are being sold for $100 or more. I looked at them and they are the simplest of stiches, well made- yes, but simply done. I was thinking that if I can hook up with one of these boutiques and make knit items for them I could live quite comfortably, knitting all the live long day. Or at least maybe supliment an income from a part time job instead of working in an office 40 hours a week.
