Need $60k for helicopter pilot training? So do I. 16 months ago

So it looks like $60,000 is needed to do this. Does anyone out there also need $60,000 for this?

If so we can make a pact so that one of us can have the money to become a helicopter pilot. We’ll flip a coin. Loser has to sell all their vital organs on the black market. Kidneys + liver + heart should add up to about $60,000. Winner gets to keep all the organ proceeds and pay for his/her pilot training. When the winner becomes a bona fide helicopter pilot, the loser can smile down from heaven knowing, that he/she had made a dream come true.

Recent obsession... 2 years ago

For the past two years I’ve had this desire to become a helicopter pilot. I’ve always loved to fly and I’ve always wanted to be a pilot, but it’s only been recently that becoming a helicopter pilot became my main objective.

Watch out for debt, though! 2 years ago

The most remarkable form of transportation out there! Make sure you either already have the funds needed for training or a plan on how you are going to finance things all the way through before you start, or things could get tough.

I'm on my way 2 years ago

I have worked at dozens of different jobs, served in the military even. Pay ranging from not much (military) to 60k+. Leader most of the time but have followed my share too. I have done well at everything I ever attempted. I am fascinated with the sky and flying in general. Built lots of models that actually fly, do a little RC flying and am a liscenced skydiver. I have struggled to find my place in the world when it was right under my nose. I NEED to do this!

On my way to becoming a helicopter pilot 2 years ago

So one day I was sitting there thinking that it would be really cool to just be able to pick up and fly to where ever I wanted to go. My dad is in charge of an airport in Georgetown, Tx so I asked about taking flying lessons. I got lucky enough to be able to take lessons from Ray who is the only helicopter pilot at the airport. I’ve always loved flying and it sort of runs in the family. My father in-law was a pilot for the DEA until he passed away and was the only one in the DEA to be licensed to fly any aircraft. Cheers to anyone who wants to accomplish this and I will be right there finishing my first 40 hours with you!!

I’m in the middle of my research into becoming a heli pilot. Only eighteen and not sure what i want to do with my life but this has been a consistent interest for over 2 years and my love of all things that fly (aviation in general) all my life really lead me to this.

If you look deep into it this is a very difficult career (mostly day-to-day when it comes to your level of focus and skills) but if you have the traits that help to do it (light weight [no more than 215lbs or so], good depth perception, hand-eye coordination, etc.), then go for it. My problem is the cost (from what I’m seeing as of this year [2007] it ends up being as much as 60+ grand to do it). Finding a good company with ties to good financing orginizations is key unless you’re rich of course.
