I became a mom at 17 and left school to take care of my daughter, and now I am hoping to get at least a GED soon. Wish I could do it all online for free!
How to get my highschool diploma
How I did it: During my graduating year I was attending a Charter School to try and graduate on time, when that did not work out they got me to take the GED and continue on to college. Due to the economy I lost my job at UPS and had to find a place to go so I went to live and attend at the San Diego Job Corps. I was only going to take a trade class and then complete the school and work again to pay for college; however, they convinced me to return to High School at the then age of 20. I was a little bit skeptical at the need to do this at first especially since I already received my GED. When I completed the coursework and presented I realized it felt really good that my family could say that I did graduate high school. It felt good that they did not have to make excuses for me. It felt good that they could no longer say I was the kid that DID NOT finish high school. Suddenly I realized even though I had my GED, it was still a major boost to my pride and proof that its never too late to repair a mistake or do something you never got around to doing (like a high school diploma, ha.) It also reflected some positive aspects of my personality to other people.
Lessons & tips: Just do it! Seek help, find a program that is fit for you and your situation. If the opportunity comes up, do not think twice about doing it.
