fireflybaby Getting back to the basics

    High School 5 months ago

Well, Junior High was…what? Highs and lows. We are planning on pulling him out of “study skills” which is essentially a dysfunctional resource room. This means we will be fully engaged in teaching him ourselves at night the things he doesn’t understand at school. We did this one quarter last year, and it was HARD, but Dillon’s grades were up significantly, he was able to take an elective for the first time, and he seemed to be making slight progress in his organization. It was also very draining and we had plenty of fights, but again, it was so worth it. He is so worth it. He is thinking of going into forrestry.

Life with him is so hard. He is SO smart, and yet strugles so much. He has made great progress, and is reading fairly well now. He still struggles with writing and every day is a fight. I feel worn out and battle weary from advocating for him. Considering we are suposed to be living in such enlightened times – we sure have to deal with a lot of prejudices. But, my sweet, bright, funny, tender, golden boy is so worth it.

He is doing fairly well this year. It is a constant effort for everyone involved. Just keeping him on track is taking the village! But, he is reading a bit better and at times you can read his writing. He actually auditioned for a play and stood up in front of a crowd to read for the part! WOW!
