Sisu is finnish for stamina or guts.It’s also a brand of licorice candy that’s supposed to give you Sisu…
It’s the power that makes you achieve even the most impossible things. It makes you grit your teeth together and go against all odds. I think Finns are often thinking about the Winter war (we had to fight Soviets and managed to stay independent) in the context of Sisu.
I need to get more sisu and stop whining about how difficult some things are – they’re NOT.
