sew my own clothing

summer is coming up.. maybe ill have time =)

I loved being able to customize patterns to fit me just right. So far I have made a wind shirt, an insulated vest, and an insulated jacket. (that doesnt count the four or so wind shirts I made as prototypes to bone up on my sewing skills and tweak the pattern to fit my body)

I am working on sewing my own ultralight camping gear, current projects are a wind shirt and a insulated jacket.

I’m already doing this, but my goal by the end of the year is to have 90% of my clothing made by me. Right now I have 2 dresses, several skirts, and a shirt.

I’ve been working at sewing clothes for about a week. Over the last weekend I sewed enough skirts to make it through this whole week. Though I can only hope they don’t fall apart on me. I must get a new sewing machine to complete this goal obviously.

I made a dress for Easter, it doesn’t look that bad. It was a simple wrap dress, but it’s pretty heavy and warm regardless. I look okay in it, even though it stretches out over my big ol’ baby-bearing hips.

I made my first muslin mock-up last night. It fits pretty well (except getting it on and off is a hassle because of how not-stretchy muslin is.)

I’m taking a four-week patternmaking class with Make workshop. Great place, very nice teachers.

My mother has bought me a dressmaker’s form for Christmas! I’m going to start making myself shirts and jackets now, to practice before I make myself a beautiful prom dress.
