I got kicked out of the folk band I’d been singing with for two years. No good explanation. The guitarist/self-appointed all-knowing leader ‘decided that I didn’t have time for it anymore’. This was right after Christmas break, at the beginning of which I told him I could practice/play out as much as he wanted over break, he just needed to call me, which he never did.
So, about that CD…
Honestly, I am glad. It was a bad situation and I was constantly stressed out and upset because of it. We weren’t going anywhere, and I wasn’t anywhere close to getting my CD because he just never wanted to work on it – we’d spend hours on songs HE would select for gigs, and then end up never singing them. I felt we needed a CD to help market ourselves and to sell online and at gigs, because he wasn’t good at negotiating what we got paid for gigs or getting us better ones, and we were barely breaking even.
So it’s time to move on. I don’t know what’s coming next. A friend is a bassist/vocalist, and we’ve been talking about getting a guitarist and drummer and starting a project together… not folk this time, but I am still a folkie at heart. I miss it.
We’ll see what comes next.

I have not been active here at 43 things for a while, mainly because I have completed this goal. My solo guitar CD Scattered Hearts was released in September. Read more and hear samples at http://www.PatrickSmithMusic.com
Phew …

The band...
A few weeks ago I had my first experience recording something. I recorded five tracks for a demo with a folk group I’ve been singing with. We did it live, so there are all the bumps and bruises that go along with that… but it’s not bad.
What I really want to do, though, is work on my own material. I want to work on and record a CD of songs that I’ve written, mostly for my family, but we’ll see. I had intended on bringing some of my songs to the group I’m in now and having all of us work on them together, but I’ve changed my mind. Honestly, I’m not happy there, and if I leave I want to take my songs with me and have them be all my own, without anyone else having any claim to them whatsoever. I’ll share when I find the right person(s) to trust them with, but for now…

I’m so close!
I’ve got all the music, but I need to record & burn.
I’ve nearly finished the album cover, too.
Hooray!

We recorded L.B. and mixed it and mixed four of the pieces from yesterday. Will need to record a fix for one piece or redo the piece. At times close to my perfect world today.
A good look at the limitations of my playing.

After sitting and breakfast we began the process with the end in mind. So far today two pieces have been recorded. Now a short snack break and then prepare for number 3.

WOW. The graphic artist is on to something. I do not think in visual ways but I am grateful for those that do. decisions, decisions.

This evening I pick up my producer/engineer at the train station and we begin the final recording session. Intitial artwork ideas arrived last evening, so all is coming together.
Much has been happening along this goal, just not time to detail it all here.
