How to visit a planetarium
How I did it: I searched for a local planetarium using Google Maps, found the nearest one and followed the link to their website. They had information on public programs, which were offered every Friday at 8:30 pm. This month's show was 'To the Moon and Back', which obviously featured our nearest celestial body, Luna.
In all, it lasted a little over two hours. First, the director lectured briefly on constellations, then we delved into the Moon itself. We watched a video from NASA explaining their most recent Lunar project, the LRO and LCROSS which are designed to map the Lunar surface and investigate signs of water ice, respectively. Then we headed over to the observatory and looked at the Moon and Jupiter including its four Galilean moons.
Lessons & tips: Just do a little research about your local planetarium and make a plan ahead of time for your trip. It helps if you have a nearby university or live in a college town.

ahh, the best thing about it was the laser shows… I saw it to Pink Floyd, amazing!
went a few months ago, before it closes for good. Pushchairs aren’t allowed though :(
I was actually lucky enough to visit the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC about a month after it was reopened. It was totally cool and I would love to visit again – Mutti wants to hit up the Met this summer (fine by me) but maybe we can squeeze in a planetarium visit as well. I’d like to rediscover my astronony nerd side.

Actually, the feelings I experience during a planetarium show are almost identical to the feelings I experience during Mass.
I have never been to a planetarium. Today I caught the tailend of a news story that the London Planetarium was closing because people are no longer interested. “Iam” , I shouted at the TV :(
When I was in elementary school, there was a trip or two to a planetarium. I don’t remember much about what I saw, for it’s been a long time, but when I think about it, I feel good. I suppose it’s because I got to sit quietly to see so many stars in the sky. It was impossible to do so where I lived.
Now I’ve moved to a new province for almost ten years. I can occasionally see many real stars at night but I still miss those artificial stars at times. There is no planetatium in the province so I’m looking forward to going to the old province and visiting the planetarium.
