pain  — 5 months ago

Worth doing!

I’ve pulled a calf muscle with only 3 weeks to go before SuperSEAL. This sucks on a grand scale, since I’m not known for patience for my body’s healing process.

It’s also my second injury in four months. I’ve been (mostly) injury-free for almost five years, aside from various hip, neck, hamstring, and shoulder aches and pains. Can anyone say “overtraining”? I didn’t think I was pushing it that hard, but…the body indicates otherwise.

So. Cross fingers. Arnica. Traumeel. Stretch. Cross-train. Stay off the damned leg.

triathlon is not necessarily a weight-loss program  — 5 months ago

Worth doing!

Since I starting training three weeks ago for SuperSEAL (www.superfrogtriathlon.com), I may have increased my fitness, but I haven’t decreased my weight. Heh. It’s easy to over-eat after training, and it’s easy to justify eating the wrong food.

The trick, I think, is to have available smaller portions of more sensible foods—as much of a pain in the neck it is to prepare those portions. Still, anyone trying to get better in triathlon needs to consider nutrition as another “event.”

SuperSEAL marks my first tri of the season, and this is my sixth season. I decided to sign up with only 7 weeks of prep. I love a challenge.

completed my second tri  — 11 months ago

Worth doing!

This past Sunday I completed my 5th overall race, my second triathlon. The Pumpkin Man Triathlon was a sprint length race (1/3 mile swim, 17 mile bike, 5k) in S. Berwick Maine. I had a great time despite the threatening weather, and I was so glad I did it! Because I had only done one other tri, I had to get over the fact that nothing is ever quite like your first time (and by the way that’s true) – but then again, nothing is quite like your second, either! My family was there for me at the finish line and I was really proud of my times. As an adult, there aren’t that many “finish line” experiences and even though my extended family thinks I’m nuts, doing a race like this shows me what I’m made of, and feels amazing.

Worth doing!

well, i joined a triathlon training club.
I did my first mini-tri in May. I’m still in training for Danskins and Tri for the Cure. I swam at Chatfield Res (open water) for the first time on Saturday. Good stuff!
I think I’m hooked for life!

training for my first since january  — 1 year ago

Worth doing!

My first triathlon (sprint) will be on July 15. I’ve survived some grueling practices…1900 yards (not including warm up)! I just really hope that I can pull it all together by July…I’m a little nervous that it won’t work out. Running is going good…running only 1 mile almost everyday…will be picking that up more this mth with 2-3 mile runs. LOT’S OF NERVOUS EXCITEMENT about the race!

Tri-Shark on Saturday  — 1 year ago

Leaving tomorrow night to Hudson, IL (Better Yahoo Map that.. ) and will try to have a fast race. Bloomington Lake seems like a great place to spend the rest of the day with the boys.

2006 Chicago Triathlon  — 1 year ago

Finishing once again the Sprint distance on Sunday has giving me the motivation to re-start my training. Maybe the 1/2 IRONMAN is not too far away ;)

Worth doing!

The running bit sucked balls, but I finished. I wish I could have swum the entire thing! Luckily we had wonderful cool weather.
