I could possibly be financially independent now, but my income is fairly inconsistent so I’m not willing to risk making sure until I have some more stability, but that means a new job or at least guaranteed shift at the jobs I have now.

How I did it: when i went into this goal i lived paycheck to paycheck, had debt on a few credit cards and had a car loan. i had to borrow money from my parents to avoid late fees and i often overdrew my checking account and paid bills late. i couln't live on my own because without roommates i would never have been able to afford rent. in order to get to where my finances weren't hanging over me i had to chang eseveral things about the way i lived on a … Read how I did it…

Right now I’m 31 years old. I’ve done several things that will help me in my way to be financially independent of income from my daily work.
1. I’ve taken a bachlor degree in college. This gives better work and more well paid work.
2. I’ve bought an apartment that i will sell for profit
3. I’ve started saving money in shares and other similar investments

I’m starting to build another business. It seems like the more I get ahead, the more I spend, so I’ll need to get that under control. Discipline.
I always feel like I’m on the cusp of this one but can never quite nail it.

I need to be financially independant. Nobody can do this but me.
josephine7 wow, e!
The situation now – I moved to Sweden to live with my boyfriend here. I know little Swedish.I almost finished a Master Program here and I haven’t still found a thesis project cause it is supposed to be done through a company. Neigher can I find a job, because I don’t know the language. My parents were supporting me until I finished studies but they cannot do it forever. I am totally dependant on my boyfriend but it is hard for him to have me hanging on his neck. Needless to say, I love him very much, but unfortunately I realized that I cannot rely on him in the future. I have to leave. This situation for me is very inprisoning and all I can do is struggle and work. Now, I am not saying all this to complain. I know that complaining doesn’t work when things go to the bottom. I am writing this because I am hoping that in some time I will look back and I will see the long path I have walked. I will have a good job and good family. I will be independent!!! :) Keep your fingers crossed for me. :)
glache is ECSTATIC!
So excited. I should have $10k in savings by the end of this year, which was my goal. Then, hopefully full time work. Got myself a Visa Debit card, so no more begging from parents for credit card for online transactions. It’s probably not a bad thing I just found out, the Sydney job market will be saturated by the time I’m registered, which is even more incentive for me to go rural, and where there’s big $$$$$$ (not to mention lower living costs). Faster financial independence = win. Looking forward!

KashaBunny asks,
“I have a credit card in my parents' names with a high limit for emergencies. I'd like to have my own so I can get rid of theirs. How do I get a card with a high enough limit so I can safely cut the parental cord?”
