nylluap is sad/glad that school is on again..*>
I’ve seen all these movies about people playing hockey and make me wanna try it.
How I did it: I bought skates on New Year's Day with my best friend. We got sticks and pucks a few days later. He knew how to skate, I had only been on ice one other time in my life, 9 years earlier. But for some strange reason I took to the ice like it was something I was born to do. I had my share of spills, one particularly nasty one while learning crossovers, but I was on my way to being able to play hockey. Just a few weeks later, I found myself p… Read how I did it…

freefloatingsoul got to take the beautiful new dog {Harper?} for a nice long walk.
I joked with Ross (who got me back in to hockey) that when he returned from Italy I would have learned how to stop. Well… I still haven’t found the ice skates, nor have I been to the rink.
But if I want Varly and Ovie and Semin to love me I need to at least be able to skate. I mean, my war face is good but it will take more than that and a love of their team (go Caps!) to get their attention. Don’t you agree?
New plan: practice practice practice so that I can play intramural at UMD.

I consider this part of a larger initiative to be more active, i.e. to exercise without realizing it.
bpillgrim Making my goals list
I wanted to learn how to play hockey since I can remember. Now I barely can ice skate but… I had some plans, just need more time.
Well, I’ll be happy to be able to score. That’s my goal ;)

I’ve loved Hockey since my friend introduced me to it 1 year ago. I just love it! I’ve watched all the Minnesota Wild games, and I’ve been to one of them! It was the greatest moment of my life. Anyways… it’s not like I really need to learn to play hockey… it’s more like, I need to learn how to Ice Skate. Heh, if I knew how to Ice Skate I’d already be trying out for my school’s Girl’s Hockey team. So, um, I guess thats my little story thing about hockey. :)
i started playing about a month ago. I’m a freshman in college and i guess i just decided this was something i really wanted to do. i go to an all girls school and they have a hockey club. my friends all thought i was crazy, but i guess i was, seeing as i wasnt much of a skater. although im still getting down the fundamentals of skating, i love it already. granted, my back is killing me, after just getting out of practice… but its so worth it.
hopefully ill be able to play in some games soon!
I played my first game last Sunday and will play my second game this week. It’s totally worth doing! I’m so glad I’ve stuck with it with the help of some very encouraging friends and a very patient spouse.
Three lessons in and I love it! I’m now practicing two to three times a week, and thinking of attending a pre-season camp. Not bad. I’m woefully out of shape and this is really helping out! I’ve lost six pounds and a lot of inches, and I have a lot more energy (and something to talk about other than my job!)

Last winter I started taking my eight-year-old daughter to the ice arena every Saturday (DH sleeps on Saturdays to recover from graveyard shift… it helps to be out of the house for the quiet). I skated with my daughter (why not, I’d just be sitting there cold anyway, and it’s good exercise).
Turns out, I love ice skating (all the exercise, without the heat/humidity of a gym!) Watched the kids play hockey and it just looks like so much fun!
I still don’t have skills (just beginning to learn to go backwards) but I’m ambitious. I’ve always wanted to learn to play a team sport anyhow.
Will try to find a “beginners” class soon and sign up—season starts in September!
