I went out caroling tonight... 11 months ago

...with a small group of adults and kids on a warm evening for December. My favorite stop was at the home of my 100-year-old friend. Her daughter and son-in-law have been staying with her lately, and so she was all ready and waiting for our arrival. She was dressed in a red-and-green Christmas outfit and a Santa hat, and stood outside the front door and sang along with us and had a great time. Come to think of it, all the people at all our stops came right to the door or outside on the porch, sang along with us, and had a great time, except for one poor gentleman who was having a bad day and couldn’t make it out of bed.

We carolers had a good time, too. I’m glad I went.

Christmas Caroling 11 months ago

I thought about it, and I’d be happy if we could just get together and bake Christmas cookies and sing carols at the house like they used to do in the 1800’s. Like, I can try to play piano, and we can learn to harmonize and sit around singing… and I’d be happy.
But I would also like to go out caroling again one day. I haven’t done it in a looong time, and I used to really enjoy it.

Here we come a'wassailing... 23 months ago

Wassailing is the practice of people going door-to-door singing Christmas carols until paid to go away and leave the occupants in peace.”—from Wikipedia.

We were not very good at singing in the proper key, or even in starting out in the same key, but nobody seemed to care, and nobody paid us to go away. (Someone did give us cookies and fudge.) We did our best to spread some Christmas joy, and then went out for pizza, and then on the way home we drove down a street where all the houses and yards are strung with miles of Christmas lights and a large assortment of lighted snowmen and reindeers and other assorted stuff, each house trying to out-do the next. It was fun.

Could have 2 years ago

I was supposed to go christmas caroling this christmas with a group I belong to, but my son had an ear infection so we had to stay home. We did ring the salvation army bell though, and Landon (my 5 year old) and I sang christmas carols while we rang the bell. It was so much fun. He’d sing Santa Clause Is Coming To Town at the top of his lungs and little old ladies would give him $20 bills to put in the bucket. He was quite the entertainer.

We did this with out church choir several times and it was a lot of fun. We walked through the neighborhood and then drove to several nursing homes to sing for them as well.

Caroling 2 years ago

It’s a blast, you go with your friends, sing your hearts out, it’s always good to go visit the old lonely people you know, and take them cookies and talk to them after you’ve sung to them. Caroling always makes my Christmas!

We’re going to do it again this year! Yay!

Last winter, my guitar teacher gathered all her students and former students together to go caroling around her neighborhood. Although I’m not religious, it was really fun and people gave us Skittles.
