I’m 30% of the way there on this. I haven’t got the soundproofing up yet, but everything is where it needs to be as far as preliminary layout goes. I’ve just got to get things going as far as hooking things up. The main thing is the getting off my butt factor. Times a’wasting!

I have to set up my home recording studio in order to work. I’ve got:
Synthesizers (soft and hardware)
MIDI controllers
instruments
and amplifier or three
some great software
Cubase 4
Wonderful soundproofing
Theater curtain for the gaps (this must be sewn)
*lots of SOUND PROFESSIONALS around to help me with my problems

A good start

Found a perfect desk – or cat nap stand depending on who you ask – at iKea. It is nice and big and has a section of in-laid frosted glass I can use as a light table. Need to order the adjustable set of legs. Got a great flat file drawer on wheels that slides underneath where I can store all of my crafty things. I had so much fun finding a few accessories to support my work style. A magnetic knife bar which is a great place to stick my tools. And a magnet board / dry erase that I can use for brainstorming and to keep track of all of my loose college pieces. I think the key to making it work for me is having everything easy to reach and out without it being too messy since its in the living room. Set up and clean up can be such a silly but real barrier.

we finish priming the wood in the first section in dec ‘07, but we won’t really be able to work on it again until later in the spring – long story…

Yay!
then we have to paint it, then we need to do the cement part, wait for the paint to cure, then we start on the next section.
yeah… this is going to take a while.
we are going to look into renting an air compressor/paint sprayer. That might speed things up…

I worked on priming the space for a bit more than 30 min. this morning before getting ready to go to work. I will try to do this whenever I wake up early enough; it felt great to work on something for myself before I went to work.

Settitng up my studio requires cleaning and painting the very dirty bare concrete and flaky whitewashed wood of the downstairs space in our rented house. We have to do this in sections, because all of the studio stuff is down there right now, in boxes. We have started the first section, but it is slow going. I can’t wait until it is done. We are in the process of priming the wooden parts. (We got a lot done last weekend, and are going to work on it more this weekend.) I am considering doing a little bit everyday before I go to work (20 or 30 minutes). Maybe I’ll post a picture – we were just talking about how we wished we had taken a “before” picture, because even with just the cleaning and getting some primer down, the space seems transformed. Yay! But I will say, now that this project is started and we know the level of work involved, it is going to take months.
