getting things done  — 1 year ago

I got hold of David Allen’s Getting Things Done many years ago, it was quite OK in the sense of helping me much to better organize myself and my projects, but I guess everyone needs to find his/her own solution at the end, that he/she can really live with.

Mischief Managed  — 2 years ago

    Worth doing!

Here’s the combination process/tools I’ve used to manage projects:
    • I did a big David Allen (GTD) style brain-dump (into OmniOutliner) and created an organized Project List in OmniOutliner
    • I then move those projects and related reference material into my own Confluence server. The global access makes up for the extra clicks (hence transfer from capture in OO to Confluence)
    • I’ve moved completely to Subversion for checked in code. Everything gets checked in (svn+ssh and SSH keys makes things work well)
    • I use JIRA for task/effort tracking (I wrote a GreaseMonkey script to assist in automatically tracking time spent)

At some point (on the todo list) I’ll create a better integrated task system as there’s still a bit of friction between what I put in my OO Action List and what I put in JIRA.

Find your Passion and Be it now!  — 3 years ago

    Worth doing!

Find the common purpose that connects everything you want to do and work on that using whatever skills and resources you have right around you. Let the dross go. We can be the change we wish to see in the world. Know thyself. Take the red pill. Connect with others who share your passion and change the world TODAY. oh yeah, most importantly, have fun doing it. Play alot inside and Play alot outside. We were children once playing with toys. Use the fork Luke :-)

    Almost there ...  — 3 years ago

    Worth doing!

I have invested the last couple of days sorting, consolidated, releasing and integrating a good 2 or 3 dozen folders from numerous projects into one folder and project. During this process I realized that many of the projects I had been tracking are actually related to each other in various ways. By working with them as integrated parts of a whole I hope to increase my focus and energy flow. I also hope to be able to spend less time while increasing my output yield. I think another benefit may be that it will be easier to recognize where new information needs to go. I can already see a shift in my thought process as far as weeding out distractive non-essential stuff from the synchronistic gems that provide quantum bursts.

I got off my ass, entered stuff into Basecamp. I now feel much better.

    43 Things + Basecamp = Community Collaborration  — 3 years ago

    Worth doing!

I am going to try an experiment where I start adding my goals from projects that I am currently working on to my 43 Things goals and then create a link to Basecamp for project tracking and communication so that other community member who have shared goals can collaborrate more easily.

Cof, cof  — 3 years ago

Poner en orden mis ideas, anotarlas para que no se me olviden y llevar a cabo el maximo de proyectos. Porque siempre se me ocurre uno nuevo y se me olvida el anterior!

I really need a data base but I’m dreading the data entry phase of the thing.I should start to get one together by mid year. Also I need to get my shirt together with copyright and all that leagalistic jazz.

    Projects  — 3 years ago

I have a lot of concurrent projects I’m working on, and I can’t ever figure out what to do. There are many websites I’m involved in and things I contribute to, and I’d like to prioritize them and therefore better manage the time spent working on them.

Always too much stuff to do  — 3 years ago

    Worth doing!

I get the feeling that if I had better tools, I’d be better able to get organized, but most of the things I want to do are to create better tools for said purpose. Perhaps that’s only for lack of something better.
