angiem357 getting paperwork together to renegotiate her mortgage!

Stupid Boy  — 1 week ago

I’m not going to blame all of this on my ex-husband, because I guess it IS my fault for marrying him when I knew he was sort of mooching off my creditworthiness and sense of responsibility.

When I kicked him out, I found out that he had bounced 4 mortgage checks (which meant the mortgage had never been paid and they were beginning foreclosure!), maxed out every one of my credit cards, and was about to have his own vehicle repossessed. He ended up telling them where to pick up the truck. He’d lied about getting an escrow account for the insurance and taxes (he was a mortgage loan officer – i figured i could trust him to take care of our mortgage! LOL!), he’d taken $40 a day out of our joint checking, and had pawned just about everything he owned, short of clothes and his weight bench. He was thousands behind in child support and had numerous unpaid debts of his own.

I’m trying to fix everything he messed up – whatever parts I’m involved in, anyway – and it’s become a huge, all-encompassing undertaking. It weighs on me night and day. There are debts of my own that go unpaid because I’m trying to pay off stuff he screwed up, like the property taxes.

I sometimes think I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but money’s so tight most months, sometimes the electric company shuts off that light! LOL!

Was best idea and hardest to do.  — 1 month ago

Worth doing!

I was in not a huge amount of bounced checks, but enough to make me swear off using checks or credit cards again..

Maybe i am not as modern, but guess what?

No debt. I have a check debit card, i can’t spend more than i have.

again...  — 1 month ago

I have already paid them off, several times, and been debt free. But i am foolish enough to help others before ensuring my own financial security, so i am back in the same big mess, again. i am so over everyone that it shouldnt be too hard to disregard their stupid problems in the future.

Making Progress  — 2 months ago

Our family now has no credit debt, but there is still my old student loan, and my husband’s student loan, plus the car payment. We are tacking a 20 year mortgage onto that too soon. There is nothing overdue on that list, and we pay more than the minimum on everything. Plus our credit score is over 700 now! I didn’t think that would happen for another year or two at least.

Ok-I've paid off the one that called me all the time  — 4 months ago

which makes me very happy. Now, I’ve got to deal with my new hospital bill that is going to be outrageous no doubt.

ok, here is where i am to start :  — 4 months ago

i just want to get these extra bills out of the way so i just have my normal bills to pay each month and i can save more too.

here is what i have:

—$1,600 last semesters tuition (must pay before this semesters bill comes)
—$2,500 engagment ring (before the “no interest for a year” deal stops)
—$2,000 legal stuff
—$4,500 amount we still owe on the car we sold (couldn’t get full price because it needed a ton of work)

How did this happen?!?!?  — 4 months ago

We were doing great. Then, after struggling with infertility, we turned to adoption. Adoption costs kept mounting and we did not want to drop the adoptions and lose what we did have invested and besides, we began the process for a reason. We began to use credit cards for daily expenses and save the money for adoption costs. During this process, lo and behold, I became pregnant. That was alright, we wanted a big family anyway. After delivering the baby, I took 6 weeks off work which decreased our income. After I went back to work, my husband left the country for a month to complete the adoptions. Again, our income was decreased and this time, expenses increased as well because he was staying in a hotel for a month and eating out. Once he brought the children home, I again took off work to help them adjust. Another loss in income. It has been 12 years and we are still struggling to pay off those credit cards. We were just making headway when our oldest son was in a plane crash. I took time off work to take care of him. Bills mounted. Fifteen months later, I was ill and could not work. Bills mounted. Another fifteen months later, our oldest daughter had surgery that left her unexpectedly paralyzed and in the hospital for a month. Yes, you guessed it. I was off work and the bills mounted. Not only did we have the everyday bills but they were increased by medical bills. It was so bad that credit cards did not get payments, monthly bills did not get paid, and food was getting scarce.
The kids are older now and we told them they had to pick up the slack at home so I could be available to work more. I kicked up my hours and worked a lot last summer. We got caught up on the monthly bills. We began paying off credit cards at Christmas. We are still working on them. We unloaded two timeshares by signing them back to the resorts but we are still behind on paying for two more. We owe more than ten grand at the dance studio. Now we have a bill to the government for taxes. I am trying to work more each payperiod and I hope to work about full time again this summer. During the summer, I will also have to save for my daughter’s tuition for college in the fall. I think I will need to set up a plan of how much to take from each paycheck and set it aside for the tuition while still paying off other bills. It will need to be $500 per paycheck. Wish me luck.
