jiggskc building my EMPIRE
Who hasn’t read THE WIZARD OF OZ? Or watched it take form on a television screen, or on stage. It is absolutely wonderful. We all take these forms that were created oh so long ago, and commit them to memory, they become part of our childhood, part of our collective literature. And then an author like Gregory McGuire spins the tale a little deeper – finding back story, and breathing more life into flat characters. The world has changed, our perspective is different, who we call EVIL (or WICKED) has changed – and whether it be for bad or good … we watch to see how WICKED the evil witch will become … and how she got there. It’s the Broadway play – now come to the Pantages Theatre. WICKED – the book has a musical – and we are on our way!

With Paul and Michelle, dressed to impress, and full on WINGS Chinese food, I sit impatiently in Paul’s truck, on the freeway, waiting. Waiting for the traffic to clear up. Waiting for the time to slow down. We are going to be late – and there is nothing that any of us can do about it. Sure we could have left earlier; or eaten quicker. Less talk more inertia. But we’re all to blame. Even though Paul feels the worst. His appologeeze keep flying up and around the truck. We’re going to make it. We cruise off the freeway, down Hollywood Blvd; we frantically are looking for parking. Ooh there it is. And park. And RUN. … All of us – running for the door. Michelle kicks her heels off, and her monochrome dress fleets across the cross walk.
Follow her, Paul gives me a look.
We are two minutes late. And that means that we don’t get to our seats until … well until these ushers ALLOW us to.
..
... and locked out of our seats for the first 10 minutes, but as the tension around us grew, and our anxious anticipation doubled and tripled and then just wanted to shake the lead usher like a wookie – we finally made it to our seats. Take a breathe. cus it was pretty damn good. Skipped over parts, but as far as changing the book in to a Broadway Musical – this was fabulous! it was fun and entertaining, hilarious and catchy. Everything you could have asked for and more; down right fantastical. i am so very glad that i went. Paul you rock for getting seats in the orchestra section long before the february 24th date even was thinkable. I mean, what was it: September? – when you through down the card for these seats? Such a blast!
