There are some conversations I have had that I actually feel less intelligent after, like conversations about the color of shoes.. or something lame. But occasionally I have a great “intellectually stimulating” conversation and I love it, So I want to increase the occurrences of the good kind of conversation.

Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after. — ANNE MORROW LINDBERGH
I’m very fortunate to be around people I can have this with regularly.
It has been said that a conversation without risk is a conversation not worth having.
I saw hess_is_jess’s comment, and I think a lot of people are scared or don’t care enough to move beyond the mundane and are satisfied with shallow conversation. I think that in those situations it is important to have some questions in the back of your mind if you find that the coversation is steering toward the mundane. If I don’t find that a conversation immediately starts clicking, then I like asking questions like, “if you could pick any place to go on vacation right now, where would you go? Why? Anything specific that you would want to do there?”
Are there any favorite questions that you guys like to ask to break the ice? I’d love to hear them.

It seems that more and more these days my conversations with people are merely “what”s up?” “not alot” “how are you?” “pretty good, you?” “great” and there you go…..Hopefully in the future I’ll be expanding my brain again and actually using it when I converse with my friends.
