Retiring for now 2 weeks ago

I did learn a lot this summer, and since this will be an ongoing thing, I’m calling this “done” to award myself for keeping up the interest.

Class this Saturday 4 months ago

Its featuring Wild Food and Archery. Both right up my ally so I’m going to try and make it.

    Wild garlic 9 months ago

I think this will be the first plant that I will go looking for. I never knew anything about it until last year when I tried it in my favourite restaurant: it was mixed into a cheese spread and baked into probably the best bread I ever tried. I looked it up and it seems to be a very healthy thing to eat too. It balances your digestion and blood pressure and can help detoxing your body.
It’s also called “bear’s garlic” because it’s the first plant the bears look for and eat when they wake up from hybernation.
Idea: if I can’t find it, maybe I should look for a bear and follow him around? :)))

I do allright in the plants department, but I’ve no clue about mushrooms. Even if I did, I’d be too scared to eat them, in case I got it wrong…

on hold until spring. 11 months ago

All I can do during winter is collect recipes and go through the literature, and I plan to do just that.

bought the book! 12 months ago

I was going to buy the encyclopaedia as a Christmas gift to me:-) but a local bookstore gave a 20% discount now and I’ve already started reading…fascinating stuff!!
All those plants growing around my grandma’s house I thought were weeds are actually edible, highly nutritional and some can even be used to prevent or cure illnesses and conditions.
    Can’t wait for spring!

Since I live where I live 13 months ago

I have the rare opportunity to enjoy both mediterranean and mountain fresh and diverse fruits of nature almost simoultaneously. Being a vegetarian is all the more reason to really work on this. This Chritmas I’m buying myself a present-an encyclopaedia of wild edible plants which I will study to be ready come spring. Can’t wait!

Plans to go to intensive survival class next month 16 months ago

The topics cover edible and medicinal plants. I am really looking forward to this. I hope the class is good because the guy offers several others that I will probably go to as well.

    I've got a buddy 17 months ago

now that wants to take the classes with me. It will be nice and a motivator to get the ball rolling on this. Oddly enough I was thinking about this goal a lot recently and it came up twice in conversations over the last week. I think its a sign I need to get out and conquer this one.

I've tasted it and it's quite sweet! 20 months ago

Boil clean Western Cedar needles and the root of the Licorice Fern together and strain through cheesecloth or similar filter. Enjoy. Not sweet enough? A touch of honey . . .
