I'm at my folks' place again for the holidays. 12 months ago

Since this is where 95% of my possessions are I should take the opportunity to once again give away lots of things I don’t use. I’ll update as soon as this happens.

I want to give away everything I don't use 20 months ago

I’m just surrounded by STUFF that I don’t use or only use on very rare occasions. I would love to be able to get rid of it and have more space for what I do use daily and regularly.

I gave my mother my last box of clothes this weekend, she knows a poor family with a girl about my height that will be happy to use my clothe =0)

    Kitchen stuff 21 months ago

After cleaning my kitchen, I found that I have some electrical appliances I don’t use. Some appliances were gifts, other were devices that work but I don’t use anymore because I bought new ones with more functions.

I gave away everything I haven’t use for a while, my cleaning lady took some things and I gave the rest to my mother, she knows people that will use all that stuff. I feel good! =)

I am moving in a couple of weeks, so this has been a really good time for me to go through all of my stuff and get rid of what I do not use. I went through all of the upstairs rooms this past week and filled about 5 big boxes. I am going to start on the downstairs rooms today.

I really like it 2 years ago

when one action works on multiple goals at the same time. Today I got my big backpack and put my old trumpet/case in there, and rode my bike out to the high school (about 8 miles, one way) and donated it to the band room. Tony Brown, my old band director, said he knew of a little girl that came from pretty meager means, and had been loaning a school horn. It has made my day to know that someone is getting something they have wanted and deserve, just because I was able to give.

Another great day for this goal. I’ve been going through boxes and boxes of my stuff all week. Today dad let me load up his truck full of stuff. Clothes, games systems, more kitchen stuff, loads of books, and much much more miscellanea, all given away to the local charity thrift shop. I hope to continue on this until I am living much more simply. I think I’ll hold on to this laptop though :P

    Today 2 years ago

was a good day for this goal. I got a ride to Goodwill from my mom and gave away around 6 boxes of clothes. Also I got rid of a lot of kitchen stuff: microwave, deep fryer, toaster oven, assorted glasses, silverware, knife set. I’ve still got a lot of basics, but my lifestyle and diet have changed in such a way as to not accommodate a large number of excess belongings. This feels like a really great way to simplify my life, or to help me do so anyway. I’ve still got a great deal of books to sort through, but I suppose that’s another goal.

next time I'm home 2 years ago

I do this a little bit each time I go home, but I’m usually too “busy” to really do a good job of going through my things. I’ve learned in the last year that everything I need to enjoy life fits in a backpack. I’m going to be living in the real world again soon, and foresee the usefulness of some of my things, but by and far they are going to be given away. Unfortunately I’m going to be getting an apartment about 2000 miles from where all my boxed things are, and therefore don’t really know when I’ll have the opportunity to do this. Maybe I’ll be visiting this holiday season, what better time to do an unusual amount of giving!

Next step: books 2 years ago

I love reading, but there are some books that I know I won’t read again, so I’m giving them away, some to friends, others to a public library… this way more will enjoy them, and I will start new ones.
