Time and dedication are the main components. I cycled from Victoria to Calgary solo a couple of years back. I had no real cycling experience.

How I did it: Put in about 500 miles over 3 months training for triathlons... My friends wanted to do one so we plotted out a route and went for it.Training was mostly hour to hour and a half rides 3 times a week... Longer rides on the weekend, up to 2 hours or 33 miles. I was training for a triathlon so I was also swimming and running 3 times a week... If you are just biking 5 times a week and maybe some longer rides would be better... Read how I did it…

How I did it: I just got on my bicycle and went. It was one of my first bicycle touring experiences, and I was really pushing my limits. My total distance was 182km (113 miles). At the end of it, I was experiencing dehydration, heat stroke, and 2nd degree sunburns. Read how I did it…

This goal has taken a back seat since I needed to gain weight. Now I am at the point of wanting to gain muscle mass, and therefore this goal will have to wait a little bit longer.
gonegoing is in awe of the changing season
I was looking into the 3 upcoming Tour d’Organic bike rides, and figured they would be good preparation in building up to 100 miles. So the plan goes something like this:
Aug. 26th, Santa Cruz: 40 Miles
Sep. 16th, Sebastapol: 65 Miles
Oct. 6th, Portland: 100 Miles
Wish me luck!
In order to prepare for my first ironman I have finished two road races (110k ans 155k).
One of the days of Ride the Rockies 2004 was a 100 mile day. At about the 80 mile point, we were just outside Steamboat Springs and the route took us over a series of roller coaster ups and downs. I thought I was going to die…
In September of 04, I biked 100 miles in one day for AIDSWORK of Ithaca, NY. We biked around Cayuga Lake. It was beautiful, well worth it, and we raised over 100,000 dollars for AIDSWORK.
