Saw them with Interpol, which was just a flat-out amazing concert. They’re better live than on their record. Can’t wait to see then again.

Bloc Party at Slim's w/the Noisettes and Death of the Party 4 years ago

They were excellent! Definitely worth seeing! Here’s my post about it from my Xanga

Now on to Bloc Party tonight! It was a special Popscene make-up show due to the singer losing his voice a few months ago when they were supposed to play.  I met my brother outside of Slim’s at around 8 and when I got to the door, they said I couldn’t bring in my new camera (even though everyone seemed to have a camera when I got inside!). So no pictures, though I’m sure the other people will probably post their’s somewhere. The first band that went on were the Noisettes, a loud guitar band (no bass I think) probably from the UK with a thin black female singer and a big wooly drummer who reminded me of Animal from the Muppets. They were okay, though still better than the band to follow which was Death of the Party from Oakland. A bunch of skinny guys with ties and hats, and the singer was kind of annoying. Musically they were kind of like punky new wave, but their best song was probably the improvised one while their guitarist was htaving technical difficulties. While I was waiting for Bloc Party to come on, my friend Mike noticed me from several rows of people behind him. I met his gay indie emo friend whose name escapes me, he works at Apple too and they went to Coachella together. His friend asked me why I didn’t go and I said it was because I couldn’t drive there. They both actually met Bloc Party there probably at a signing tent. Mike said the singer/guitarist Kele asked him how he was and Mike said he was “Awesome” to which the singer asked him “Why?” which stumped him. So when Bloc Party actually came on stage, everyone whipped out their digital cameras and other recording devices. They were excellent performers and their songs were great and easy to dance and clap to. The moshers and crowd surfers were kind of annoying though. At one point someone threw a black bra on stage, so Kele handed it to the shirtless drummer and told him to put it on. He didn’t though to some people’s disappointment. I don’t know all the names of the songs, I know they played “Banquet” and “Blue Light” – both of which were excellent. I definitely enjoyed Bloc Party’s performance and their music.
