Worth doing!
I’m planning my 3 week trip to Egypt and Jordan this Christmas! So excited about it after researching into all the beautiful sites. I will be traveling through Cairo, Luxor, Ambu Simbel, Alexandria, Sharm El Sheik – red sea, doing a desert safari (not all in that order!) and then heading to the city of Petra for the beautiful rose buildings, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea.
I am so incredibly excited, esp after going to the British museum last weekend and seeing the Egyptian exhibit.
Can’t wait!!
Worth doing!
I was lucky enough to work for a firm that assigned me to Cairo for two years. Every Friday I would go with some other ex-pat friends to ride horses on the Giza plateau. Despite the fact that I saw the pyramids every time, there was always one point in the ride where I’d think “Damn, they are truly amazing.” It’s not just the scale of them, there is also some fundamental mystery there which remains intriguing.

If you are going to go, you MUST go horseback riding in Giza. The owners of the stables try to rip you off, but there is no freer feeling that galloping across the desert with the pyramids as your backdrop! :)
Not worth it!
i studied egyption history, at first it was fasinating but then i started to lose interest, and then it became down right BORING. i went to the pyramids and everything but i guess i just wasn’t that in to it :(

I’ve been. Twice, actually. One of the perks of being raised overseas… I went first when I was about 11, and it was almost mystical. Then I went again last year, at 15 and it was more humbling than anything. For anyone who wishes to visit the pyramids, do it in style; ride a camel aorund it. Unless you are afraid of heights… Camel rides can be scary. But yes, I’d reccomend it to anyone, it is definately something you have to do, at least once.
Worth doing!
Worth doing it – an amazing experience – but bring lots of water and go at a cooler time of year.
