I’ve tried FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD. They’re all very nice, and are very good operating systems. While I use Linux at home, I would suggest to anyone wanting to use a *nix to try both Linux and BSD (Kubuntu Linux and OpenBSD). Right now I think that the better desktops are on Linux, but that’s just because people chose to use the Linux Kernel (licencing issues in the early BSD days). Both are good drop-in replacements for each other.
