I’m having the timeeee of my life at university…it will all be worth it if I come out with a 2:1 enabling me to get a good job with good money.
How to get a 2:1 in my degree
How I did it: I struggled a lot and learned the hard way. I repeated a year which I am not proud of but in the end i needed it. I learned a few things about studying including find out your strengths and weekenesses early and play to them. For example take a learning styles test. channel your studying and note taking to your learning style.
Also dont forget to do practice papers. I never understood the logic of this until a tutor in college said if you were athletic and wanted to win something you dont just keep fit, you practice your chosen sport, doing exam papers is practicing your achademic sport.
keep up with course work, even in early stages, I know you hear it all the time and its hard to motivate yourself over the long time. I did by at the start of the year drawing a goal sheet, this started with the big goal, a 2;1 then next had the smaller goals to get there- like be up to date with study each month and then a daily phrase to keep me going, which became a little mantra.
Finally, if all this fails and you find yourself late in the year panicing, never fret, its never too late, do what you can and remember the top 4 reasons people fail in uni is because they turn up too late, the wrong place or time or forget to write their id on the paper, do these things and youre already one up on a lot of the people who fail.
Lessons & tips: get learning styles, practice papers, keep up with small goals and make sure you turn up at the right place and time with the right equipement.
Resources: online learning style tests, college study skills seminars and a good study timetable.

i got a 2:2 in my second year so not up to my standard but i think i did the best i could. and this only counts as 33% of my final grade so as long as i work really hard on my dissertation i think i may be able to do it. but all my module marks were within 3 marks of each other – so maybe this consistency means this is the best i can do?
WooHoo, i got my 2:1, i originaly was never going to make it to university, i have dyslexia and ADD, my teachers in school never though i would even get passed the first year, now look at me so S**ew you all!!! I did it, though yes, i did give up a lot of my social life on the last year, but it now feels all worth it, getting a 2:1 for my degree feels way better then a night of dancing. Basically work hard at it, it’s so worth having a sense of achivement!
Ok so maybe this is a bit premature as I only have my unofficial results, but I got a 2.1! All my previous unofficial results have been accurate to the number, and all this needs is to be accurate to 10% and I am fine! I can start my PhD in October now. I am relieved!
I was on a Buddhist retreat at the time when I got the results (via a sneaky phonecall to my mum!) so I had 32 Buddhists who all wanted to celebrate in my success around me and I celebrated with a Puja to Manjushri!
barmycarmy is in work. Contemplating a new 43 things list.
I got a 2:2. Its not what i wanted but its still good :)
Apparently, at this point in my degree, I would need to fail all my modules not to get a 2.1! I handed my Masters project thesis in this morning (15 minutes late as the printer was messing around, but they seemed to forgive me!) and I’m sure my supervisor wouldn’t have let me hand it in if it wasn’t at least a 2.1 class, so just a poster presentation and 2 exams to go.
I cannot wait!
