I have made a concerted effort to drink more martinis and therefore I believe this goal has been accomplished. Achieving this goal, however, does not in any way construe that I will discontinue drinking them. I simply wanted to ensure that I drank more martinis, and this I have done.

..to drink Vodka Tonics (with lime)! Nothing says “deadly summer heat wave” like the cool, refreshing, and intoxicating taste of a tall vodka tonic. This is the very thing to revive the body AND the spirit.

To help kill the back pain, I made my first gin martini in years tonight. Tanqueray, ice cold, with a lemon twist. Not bad, but not as good as a Kettle One martini either. I think I’ll wait a few more years before making another.

I’ve been on a L.I.I.T. kick the past two days. I’ve mixed hundreds of these as a bartender (way back when), so making a good one at home is a snap. I’m not sure if it’s because my back has been hurting or the fact that’s it’s 350 degree outside, but I’ve been craving a ‘Tea’ for a couple of weeks.
If this heat continues, I may have to sart making ice cold Mojitos. Hmmmmmmm.

Last night was my birthday and I ‘indulged’ in three vodka matrinis over the course of the evening. Note to self: Do NOT do this again any time soon. The worst part is that, because of my surgery, I’m not allowed to take any aspirin!!!

It was cold and dry and delicious. I am so glad I decided to make this a 6:00PM ritual.

..then certainly I should be allowed at least one (perhaps two.., and maybe three on a really good or bad day).
I have enjoyed vodka martinis since I was old enough to drink. Years ago I was a bartender, and I took a special pride in making a good martini. For such a simple drink, it is incredibly easy screw up. To me, the perfect martini is ice cold, with small crystallized ice particles on top, a whisper of vermouth, and a three olive garnish. I’m a Kettle One fan myself, but occasionally I give other vodkas a “shake”.

I’ve done this and have managed to make it a part of my life. Woo-hoo for vodka!

—I already drink around two litres of water a day. Which I do believe is a healthy thing. (And don’t forget to drink more if you’re guzzling martinis. Not that I’m guzzling. My grandmother would be proud of the way I extend my pinkie in a ladylike fashion while I holding the martini glass and taking delicate little sips of 40 proof vodka. Okay, maybe grannie might have a problem with the last bit. Fussy ol’ gal, i’n’t she?)

I admit I’m filled with glee at the vicissitudes of public opinion. It’s like watching the tide coming in and out. The Rationalists/the Romantics, the 50’s/the 60’s. Back and forth. It’s a lovely rocking motion and quite calming.
So, as you may have guessed, this goal is in response to the infinite number of goals (actually 1650) that involve drinking and water. Some examples being:
- drink more water
- Be ONE person here on 43 Things that does NOT have “DRINKING MORE WATER” as a goal.
- drink toilet water (I personally recommend against this one)
Thanks to my husband’s mastering the elusive “shaken” martini and the ability to produce a “martini on command” (bad, bad, day.) (Uh, actually, it’s been a rough year) (oh, well, life is still amazing.) Anyhow, I feel that I will soon be able to say that I’ve done this.
