Clean out the closets

two down 4 more to go!!! I have been cleaning like a mad women for my sons party that is on Saturday. I am doing pretty good on getting the tasks done; however, my body hurts. I am glad that this is a goal of mine because the Hall closet, linen closet, and the mater bathroom is a mess. I will work on these after the party.

I got the big orange basket that I bought at World Market two years ago and started throwing clothes into it. I used these rules: 1) have not worn in a year, 2) truly worn looking—give it up already, and 3) you will not be that size (larger or smaller again).

Since I finished all three closets and my shoe shelves, I can partake, within reason, of the sales this weekend and fill in holes identified in the cleaning out process. So, I just ordered a coat and a jacket from landsend.com that I’ve been wanting to replace the pile of coats I donated. Woohooo!

Is done!! Mostly just had to reorganize, but I did find a few things to donate. The vacuum cleaner is going. I haven’t used it since I moved into the new place. I have all hardwood floors so I can dustmop or sweep and don’t have to drag the vacuum out.

I have four bags of papers and books and things that are still in the bags from the fire recovery company from my house fire three years ago. I must have just shoved them in this closet when I moved in and forgot about them. Two, I put back on shelves in the closet to go through another day. They are old scrapbooks and a box of old photos I’ll have to handle carefully and put into new albums because of the soot. Two I will go through tomorrow. One is games. I may end up chunking them. I think they are bagged up because they are covered in soot.

The other bag is full of my sketch books from architecture school. I just couldn’t bear to throw them out, but there isn’t a shelf to put them on and I don’t want to pile things on the floor in there again. No idea yet what direction I’ll go with them. Will decide tomorrow.

But, the closet tasks are done!!!

The hall closet is done. oy! I was a bit ruthless on the coats. But that is okay. I need to replace two that are just too big that I’ve culled to donate. A lightweight casual jacket and a cold weather construction site coat. All else that is in there are my towels, ice chests, and luggage. I just pulled all that out and re-organized it. Looks good! And, I’m done for the day. Just the big closet under the stairs left!

Shoes are done. Got rid of maybe 4 pairs. Not many, but I had really gone through them last year and these were 4 pair I wasn’t sure about. (I have a lot of shoes…. lol!) I’ve moved the summer shoes down and the fall/winter shoes up. Even though it will be 100 degrees for another month, lol.

Took a break after the other closet. Took my check to the bank. Went to the gym. Had a snack. Started a load of laundry. Goofed off a little. It is a holiday after all. :)

Bedroom closet is done!!

Have a big bag of clothes to donate. The clothes left are organized by type and length. Woohoo!

Next is shoes. Will either dive right into those or head to my office to get my check and take it to the bank if they have the checks ready….

I have today off. Today is the bedroom closet. Clean out unworn clothes. The upper shelves, I organized a few months ago, so that is done.

Today should also be shoes.

Today is maybe the clothes part of the closet outside of my bedroom.

So I can get all of the clothes done so I can take to Gateway Rescue Mission or somewhere like that in the morning. I have some coats that are way too big for me now that they could use to have to get ready for winter. And I need to see if I need to fill any coat holes in the wardrobe. I think I need a construction site coat, but that might be it.

I’m cleaning out the bedroom Closet and the hall Closet first since they both have my clothes in them.

Also cleaning out shoes.

Then, under the stair. EEK!! This one will be scary!!
