I need to pass this exam, so I want to get an early start. So here I am. Studying hard.
How to pass the Fundementals of Engineering (FE) Exam
How I did it: I studied for 1 month prior to taking the test, about 2 hours a night. Studying while working really sucks, but it's worth it in the end. I'd say you don't have to be super prepared going into the test. There was a surprising number of metallurgy questions--good luck preparing for that. The nomographs were used extensively, so it helps to understand how to use those (metallurgy). Lots of engineering economics also. But who knows how the next test will be.

got the results today. passed. I guess I am now an Engineer In Training. marking this one as done.
Took the exam today. Wasn’t really as hard as people make it out to be. I was very exhausted after finishing though. Will get the results in about 3 months.
I’m almost halfway through the review book. I spent all weekend studying to get to this point.
Here’s my plan leading up to the date of the test:
T-1.5 weeks: Study—complete at least 75% of review book
T-1 week: Study—complete entire review book, have some time to not study so I don’t go insane
T-3/4 days: Take the practice test
T-2 days: Review some topics I had trouble with in the practice test
T-1 day: Relax
I’m registered for the October 25th, 2008 test date. Haven’t really studied at all. I probably need to pick up a study guide or something soon and start taking a look through it.
I have been putting off studying for the exam. It’s Oct. 25, 1 month and 10 days. Apparently you should leave over 2 months to study.
I passed the exam taken in October 2005, and I am just now updating.. sorry!
Anyway, it was worth it, and for those that still need to pass.. take educated guesses and use common sense to eliminate choices. I took the general exam and there were lots of questions with thermodynamics and such that I never took any classes on. Just keep your cool and pace yourself and you’ll be OK.
I took the FE in April 2006 and I missed passing by ONE measely point. I don’t really need the distinction in order to practice in my field, but I would like to be able to say that I have it. It’s taken me almost a year to realize that I shouldn’t give up, especially since I only missed it by one point… so I’m going to take it again this April. If I pass, I might be able to use it as leverage, since I still don’t have a job yet.
At any rate, here goes nothing!
