I’ll sign up at the Dogs and Cats Adoption group. I would sign up more then one Sunday, but I have a lot going on this month with going out of town for Thanksgiving.

How to do volunteer work

rewarding
 "rewarding and fun"
How I did it: I was offered at age 16 to do leadership training for a new chronic illness support organisation that was establishing itself in sydney 5 years ago. I did a 4 day leadership course and then went on to start co leading and facilitating support groups for teenagers who are chronically ill. I am now on the reference committee and also speak at conferences about the importance of this organisation on teens living with illness. I have now been a leader and group facilitator for 5 years and dedicate 2 days a week to this organisation. I love it Lessons & tips: just go out there and do volunteer work, if u have a look around there are SO many places in need of different variations of work and in different areas...there is nothing as rewarding in this life than helping other people get by |

How I did it: I signed up for my company's tree planting program. Since it was june, we were just up for mulching -- trying to protect the existing seedlings by weeding the perimeter, and putting the detached weeds under the seedlings to protect any exposed root from the harsh May sun, and help retain the little moisture that they can get. How I did it: In doing my practicum for my counselling studies, I began volunteering at a drop-in centre in a hospital. Really, the majority of what I do is provide a warm place in an otherwise cold environment, and offer assistance and a "place to land". And I listen. What I hear is amazing. Yesterday was my first time volunteering at the children’s cancer center, and I had the time of my life there. Just being there, playing,joking around and keeping them company is the best thing i’ve ever done in my life.
Just being there, and out of my little self-centered world.
Making someone smile with my silly antics.
I felt useful, happy and in the moment.
Volunteer, you won’t regret it!

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I’m in!! I found a slot to fill, and tomorrow I’m going in for a full medical to start my volunteer work by next week!!! I’m so happy!!!!
Being there. Just being there is enough!!!!! Up for anything to help out and finally be of use on this planet for once!

Tomorrow is Oct.19! I’m going to St.Jude’s Children Cancer Center with the hope that there will be some slot left to become a volunteer.
I’m praying there will be, I want to help out and do something worthwhile finally with my time!!!

So my set date to see if I can volunteer for St.Jude is October 19.
I hope with all my heart that they can find me some empty slot to fill, I want to help out there, even if entails doing nothing but being a clown, which I happen to love doing! Or playing on swings with the kids, anything goes for me, just to be there for them.
Doing something worthwhile is becoming more and more what I want my life to be about, something for others, enough of me, my mistakes, my wasted time and my silly self-centered world…!
I want to help out, I have chances others don’t have and as long as I do have these chances on my side, I want to use my time here wisely… with love.

1. St. Jude’s Cancer Center for Children or CCCL (Children’s Cancer Center Lebanon), because it means much to me to help them out with all my heart:)
2. Beta’s Animal Shelter, I love cats, dogs, birds immensely, I’m bound to have fun here ;)!
Next step: Set a fixed schedule :)
