    Today: 3 years ago

    busy, busy, busy.

I am convinced that schools collaborate to plan as much as they can at THE SAME TIME, just so they can see which of Mommy’s limbs she’ll send to the recital in order to say she was at least partially there.

Today was Thing 2’s last day of school. It’s also her birthday on Tuesday, so she and I decided we should bring goodie bags to the class in order to celebrate both occasions. So we went shopping bright and early, got stuff, and assembled bags.

From there, we dropped Thing 2 off at school, and The Who and I proceeded directly to Thing 1’s school, where there was a kindergarten talent show. Thing 1 did a magic trick—excellently executed, if I do say so myself. She was so cute.

I had to leave before the end of the show in order to make it to the last day of school ice cream social at Thing 2’s school. I felt awful for having to duck out early, but hey, I made it to both…

Packed up The Who and ate ice cream and socialized.

I just wish that there was a way to be eighty-seven places at once.

Hopefully, someday they’ll understand that at least Mama tried.

I woke up at 5 this morning 3 years ago

to make muffins with Thing 1 before she went to school.

We had the most fantastic talk about what it means to be brave.

I told her I was proud of her.

I saw my daughter's school program tonight... 4 years ago

...and I was overcome by how FAST it goes. It literally took my breath away.

And I thought that I’ve done a lot well, as a mom. And I’ve made some mistakes, too. But ultimately, I will have really missed the boat if they don’t know how much I love them, how lucky I feel to have them, and how much potential they really do have.

The world is their oyster. And they’re turning into such smart, savvy, GOOD little people. They will live, and they will do a lot well, as children. And they’ll make some mistakes. But through it all, I hope they know how honored I am to have them, and how proud I am to have them as my legacy.
