I'm not doing anything better at the moment.  — 1 week ago

I’m sick of being a waiter so for the last few days I’ve been planning to join the USCG. I’ve actually been thinking some sort of military for most of my life I’ve just been too comfortable to go through with it. Now that I increasingly unhappy with my daily routine it’s time to jump in… in about a year or so. If I go now I’ll be too old to take a working holiday in Australia. So OZ in 6 months CG in 20.

I want to join the coast guard becuase I grew up on the oregon coast and have always been freinds with coast guard people. They have saved a few of my freinds plus they throw sic parties.

Half way there...  — 6 months ago

I went to the recruiting office today and filled out a bunch of paper work. Because I’m currently sick with bronchitis, and an ear infection, which I’m taking antibiotics for, I won’t be able to get my physical or take my ASVAB for a couple of weeks. I’m not worried about either. I have a clean bill of health, and I’ve already take the ASVAB twice when I was in highschool. I scored in the 84th percentile the first time around and the 92sn percentile the second time. I’m sure I’ll score higher. All I need to do is get a new copy of my SS Card, and I’m good to go. After that I can take the oath at anytime, I’ll enter the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) and I’ll leave for Camp May in late August early September.

In the mean time I need to whip my ass in shape!

Since I’m not in college anymore I have nothing better to do with my time. Plus I’ll finally get the hell out of Connecticut. Now if only I can find that damn recruiting station.

Worth doing!

The best part of my job was hanging outside a helicopter on a 50+ foot drop to a rock in the middle of the ocean, Servicing Lighthouses, crossing the Columbia Bar, and running ‘Becky’ drills in the engine room!

YOU WILL NEVER EVER REGRET BEING A COASTIE..WATHCING SUNSETS, AND SUN RISES IN THE SAME DAY, BEING THE FIRST ONE UP AND THE LAST ONE TO GO TO SLEEP, SAVEING PEOPLE WHILE THEY THINK ALL HOPE IS LOST, BEING A HERO TO MILLIONS, PUTTING ON THE SAME BLUE UNIFORM AND FEELING PROUD WHEN YOU LOOK IN THE MIRROR, LIVING ON A BOAT WITH OTHER PEOPLE WHO SLOWLY START TO BECOME YOUR FAMILY AWAY FROM HOME..WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR?

So much hope only to be dashed the day before the physical; my allergy to shellfish makes me ineligible. I have nothing. The military was my last hope for a decent job and I can’t join. I’m nothing.
