My mom is now really into wanting to get one…so I’m hoping we can get some soon. I don’t want a real big one, but she wants at least a 32 inch….I’ll live with a 22 inch in my room…whatever I just want one!

I mainly want one for video game purposes, and when I watch movies and stuff, but mostly the video games…yeah I’m that big of a loser. But there’s always some at Target on sale, and since I work there I get my discount plus we always get other team member advantages, like 10 dollars off 100 dollars or more stuff…so I’m hoping we have one soon for a decent price or I can find one somewhere else for cheap.

got a plasma! 22 months ago

I finally bought an HDTV! I went with a big screen, and got it installed a week ago.

Football in high-definition is incredible, like looking in a window. With all the college bowl games today, and the NFL playoffs starting next week, I am really happy with the purchase.

The real hit you take is from the installation cost, and from the protection plan, which was about half the price of the TV itself.

Very happy. My video games look like champs now.

Phillips 50’’ Plasma with Ambilight. Nice. We did quite a bit of research into Plasma vs LCD, what the main differences were, price comparisons etc. I used to think that plasma screens weren’t as good as LCD, but plasma screens have come a long way since they were first introduced. Plasma screens generally have better contrast for really black blacks.

Our new TV is amazing. Especially when you add SKY HD to the mix.

I went to Circuit City and Best Buy this weekend to check out HDTV’s side-by-side, and I’m glad I didn’t just order a projector online.

Right now, quality-wise, I would rank the different HDTV types this way (best to worst):
    • Plasma
    • XBR (a Sony company technology… and extremely expensive; like $5000 on these sets)
    • Rear Projection
    • LCD/DLP
    • Projector

The plasmas and XBR’s were both spectacular and about made me drool. The picture is just so ridiculously bright and sharp; it was really like looking in a window. I didn’t single out any of these models, cause they were so expensive.

JVC HD56FN97 – This is a $2000 56” rear projection which uses a technology called ILA (evidently like DLP w/ lots of mirrors). The picture was the most crisp of any rear-projection I saw today. However, I think I was catching some motion blur on this TV (rainbow effect?). Also, I just checked consumer reports online, and this got good reviews and was near the top of their list.

Samsung HL-S5687W – $2088 56” DLP. Looked great, although I liked the previously mentioned TV better.

Also, for LCD’s, I thought the Sony Bravia’s looked spectacular.

leaning towards a projector 2 years ago

Earlier I was considering an LCD TV, but we don’t have a good place for it. I’m worried about glare with it in the living room, and it would be too high above our fireplace. So, I’m thinking a projector for downstairs would be best, since there’s no windows (pitch black) and it’s a huge space.

I checked online for good HDTV deals, since the Super Bowl is a week from today. All of a sudden I feel like I need this…

    Optoma HD70 ~ $1000
    Optoma HD72 ~ $1800

The latter got the best rating on consumerreports.org out of all projectors reviewed.

Still to research: do I need to buy a HDTV tuner? Also, rabbit ears to pick up the local stations on HD? Should I just get digital cable and how much does that cost?
