I’m planning on going to the Edinburgh fringe festival next summer. Will be meeting up with a few friends and also touring the highlands for a couple of days. Never been to Scotland before so I am really looking forward to it.

How I did it: I heard about it one year and decided to go if I had the opportunity the year after. I've been going for two years in a row now and it's really cool. I've seen bad movies, but I've also seen some very good ones, and I probably wouldn't have had the chance to see those if it weren't for this festival. But don't forget to buy tickets in advance! They're sold out quite fast. Read how I did it…

I went to the Bay Area Jewish Film Festival and saw “Praying in Her Own Voice,” a very powerful chronology of women trying to get the right to pray at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
There’s something different about a film festival. People go not just for the film but for the point of view, and there are often panels or filmmakers present. It’s certainly a different experience.

We have tickets to one of the films!
I may be able to finally take this one off the list!
We learned about the festival after it had already started, which made it somewhat difficult to plan out which movies that we wanted to see. We did manage to get down to the theaters, despite a snow storm, to see three films. We saw:
Tussenstand (Stages), a Netherlands film about a divorced couple’s transition from being bitter with one another to being at peace with their change in family status.
Am Ende Kommen Touristen, a German film about a German boy who goes to Auschwitz to do his public service and learns more about the war and the town where the camp was, as well as what has become of the people who live in the town, what their lives have become.
The Pixar Story, a documentary about the progression of John Lasseter’s career through the creation of Pixar, up to the merger with Disney. Lee Unkrich, who works at Pixar, was there for a question and answer session right after the film, so it was a real treat to be able to see the documentary (which we loved) and also meet someone from Pixar.
We really loved the atmosphere at the festival as well as the fact that we were able to get into those three films despite only finding out about the festival after the fact.
Next year, we want to try purchasing passes ahead of time so that we can get in to all of the films that look interesting to us. We saw three this year, and hope to at least double that next year. I can’t wait to go again.
Hopefully I’m going to one in San Jose this or next weekend! Woooooo! So excited!
I want to take three friends with me, Clay and Niki and Becky, and go to an independent film festival somewhere. Maybe San Francisco or Santa Cruz.
After several years of getting excited about the lineup of this or that film festival in Atlanta, I finally went to one. Spent most of the day today at the Jewish Film Festival and saw one full length documentary, 9 shorts, and two features. All well worth it. Loved it, glad I did it, wish I could do it more often.
Now I want to get to Toronto or Sundance…
Ellie is currently working on goals 3, 4 and 6
Not a film festival, but I might be going to see one of these screenings :)
Edit: My mum is buying two tickets for the horror double bill night! Now someone to take…lol.

I went to see “La Vie En Rose” and it was one of the best films I have seen so far in 2007.
