learn to speak Czech

Now that my children are independant I now have more time to learn another language and have always wanted to learn to speak Czech. I have always envied people with a second language!!

It’s where my family’s heritage comes from, and I didn’t like Latin, I only liked Spanish a little bit. I just think connecting with my roots and learning to speak Czech would be cool.

Recently I went to a work conference in Croatia followed by a short euro trip to France, Prague and Germany. At the work conference I happened to meet two fantastic people who live in Prague. We hit it off straight away even though they didn’t speak much English. When I went to Prague a week later they showed me around. Prague is the most beautiful city ever, and felt like I really belonged there. Also even though I had only known these two people a few days, we felt like old friends. I promised them I would return to Prague for a longer stay, and now I can’t stop thinking about when that will be. In the mean time, I would like to start learning how to speak Czech so that I can converse with my new friends on a deeper level and work/live in Prague for awhile.

A good friend of mine, someone with whom I became very close, moved to Ireland and now the Czech Republic last year. I have always been jealous and wished that I could be so brave as to venture to a foreign country instead of being stuck on this path that everyone seems to follow, highschool, college, graduation, job. As a freshman in college, I have decided that I am going to take a detour and visit this friend in Prague, and so, would like to be able to converse with natives!

While working at the Ritz Carlton in a little resort community in Southern Florida,the first friends I made were Lena and Judith.They went to school together in Prague and were basically the sweetest people I’d ever met,which being a misanthrope was a quite a surprise to me. Everyday they we’d have breakfast at the staff cafeteria and they would teach me little phrases in Czech. They moved back to Prague and told me to I had a couch waiting any time I wanted to visit. Well, I’m planning my first european trip next year,and I’d very much like to speak with my old friends in their native tongue. I have a good deal of work ahead of me. Wish me luck.

i want to speak Czeck because my cousin doesn’t understand me that much. he trys to teackh it to me but i can’t remember everything!

No, myslim ze szazim se ucit cesky pres 3 let ale jakmite mluvim ani slovo, neni to k nicemu… kurva je to uplne tesky jazik. Proc neni snadny jak spanelscina.

I just finished my first semester of Czech classes at the University of Michgian. I took the final this week. Wish me luck!

Does anyone know the best way to learn? Is there one program that I can get online that is better than the best? Is is better to have a live teacher than tapes? It would seem so, but how much better?
