I want to do something nice, kind, sweet, and loving for someone deserving on Valentines Day, but I am happily single this time around (Thank Heaven).
I am due to donate again on Feb 9th. I think I will just schedule my next donation appointment on good ol’ V-Day. :) That seems like a fitting gesture. And my Red Cross is right next to a Hallmark shop—go figure. Maybe I’ll step in and buy myself some sweet somethings. =) 4 days ago

I don’t recall what started my big want to give blood last year, but whatever it was I’m thankful for it. I’m part of the 7% of the population that is type O negative blood. And less than 1% of that 7% donates. I love donating with the thought of helping others who need it!
I started my donation journey with the Red Cross on June 22, 2011. My first blood donation went to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL to help a patient in need, after first ensuring local hospital needs were met.
My second donation was given August 31, 2011. My donation was sent to University of Minnesota Medical Center – Riverside campus in Minneapolis, MN to help a patient in need.
My third (latest) donation was given December 15, 2011. My donation was sent to University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN to help a patient in need.
Three donations down, five more to go until I have given one gallon of blood. Thus far, I have been deferred more times (4 deferrals) than I have actually donated due to low hemoglobin, but I always get it just high enough, and come back with a smile on my face! :) I love the staff at my local Red Cross, they’re fun people (vampires) to hang out with for a bit. I should be seeing them this month for my fourth donation. Woohoo! 1 week ago

Tried to donate today which would have ticked off this goal, but I discovered that I can’t donate for a YEAR because of the malaria risk present in India. So sad. Understandable, but so sad. India isn’t even listed as one of the countries that prevent you from giving blood in that packet you have to read every time, either. So annoying. Oh well. I guess I will finish this goal January 16th, 2013. 1 week ago

Since one can only donate blood every 56 days, unfortunately you cannot actually donate one gallon of blood in a calendar year.
However, you can come pretty close, giving six times. But that doesn’t stop me from donating every chance I get.
First donation of the year – down. Including my previous donations, I should have a one gallon pin by the end of the year, health providing.

For my own health and well being. I’ll still try to donate occasionally but with the issues I’ve had the last few times I’ve gone I’m not thinking this is a realistic goal for me at this time. Perhaps in the future.
If I get a real handle on my anemia then I’ll shoot for the gallon in a year. I was not doing well for about a week with that donation last week though. :\ 4 months ago

I’ve actually given blood once before, maybe seven years ago. Then I moved in with my father, and his Hep C knocked me out of the running until last August when I’d been on my own for a year. With everything else going on at the time, I just didn’t think to give blood again.
I’m O+ and was CMV negative last time (that means my blood could be given to babies and people with damaged immune systems). Not sure if the latter is still true, but either way I’ll be doing something good for somebody come Friday! 7 months ago
