After talking to some parents whose kids are first generation in the US, I leaned that it takes 10 years for them to learn to write Chinese. While that sounds daunting, I’m still hoping to learn! I expect it will take me more than ten years.
I also took a year of Madarin at university. My teacher says that daily practice is very important – not just for a few minutes. We’re talking about hours of vocabulary, conversation, and writing. Split it up, and try to use the language with friends who are learning or know how.
