llong is growing slowly but surely
....but I can:
1) Tie two ropes together
2) Tie a rope to a stationary object, like a pole or a chair
3) Create a loop knot like a lasso
4) Create some decorative knots
I’ve learned about 20 knots so far. There’s A LOT more to do with knot tying, but this is a good start.

The Butterfly hitch, very useful in attatching flags to unprepared lines. It is physically sound. I rock.

My plan is to build up a repertoire of 43 knots. I’ll post up a picture of each new knot I’ve learned, and when I get to 43, I’ll test myself on each one to make sure I really have learnt them. Then I’ll test myself again one week later. If I can’t do all 43 from memory, then I have to go away and work on the knots I couldn’t do and repeat the test yet again one week later. When I pass the test I can mark the goal complete.

like the bowline, clove hitch, sheep shank. I used to know a few more, but I’ve forgotten them. What I need right now is a knot that slips and locks, so I can tie up a a piece of rolled up carpet.
Let’s see if this new fangled interweb thing will yeild up the solution…
oops! Did I say sheep shank? I meant sheet bend (I think).

Clove Hitch, memorized. I’ve got a knot book out of the library now; if it’s good I’ll post it.

I can tie a hitch, a 1/2 hitch, square, granny,I just can’t get the monkey’s fist down, it always looks good on 3 sides and the 4th it’s crap. as long as i can tie my shoes and keep the boat from getting away i’m considering this finished!

I know how to tie a quick-release knot. Pull on the end, and it all comes undone (and your horse is freed).
The picture is of a Clove Hitch, which looks easy if I can just memorize it.

Niel is figuring out if he likes what he's doing.
I’ve started this at about age 10 at a camp, and never really stopped. In today’s life there is not much need for knots, but it’s a simple solution to many problems.
It is best to practice with smooth cotton rope.
