I’ll be moving into a dorm for the first time in late August. It’s a brand new building, and I get to room with a friend I met in college (I’ll be a junior this fall). I’m excited about it, but I’m nervous as well. We’ll see how it turns out.
How to live in a dorm
How I did it: Signed up for the dorms! Making sure my parents signed necessary forms, having them help me move in on the first day, etc. Also, shopping for necessary dorm room items at Target! Having a small vacuum cleaner, Swiffer cloths are handy. If you're going to have people visit your room often, just having cleaning supplies on hand makes things easier.
Lessons & tips: If you want a nice room/floor with nice bathrooms (especially if they are communal), make sure you sign up EARLY!!! Don't put if off until the last minute. First come, first serve.
And, if possible, if you are allowed to choose roommates (from a selection of other students that are planning to stay in the same dorm as you), make sure you are compatible with them. As in, if you are a neat and orderly person, you might want a roommate who is the same. Just so that you don't get annoyed or irritated by them.
Resources: Parents, an awesome roommate, friends on other floors. A large car/van to help move in your stuff. Siblings (twin, older, younger) to help you out as well.

NittleGrasper is actually quite content
Move in day was this past Wednesday, and so far it has been fine. It’s still a bit surreal that I’m staying in a dorm, and not going home everyday. I’m glad it’s the quiet floor, then there’s not too much drama that goes on.
My roommate is cool, and we have the same hobbies and interests. :)
The only problem with the dorm is that 2 of my dresser drawers don’t have tracks, the closet door is off-track, and the window won’t open. x___X I tried calling maintenance, but they’re so slow in taking requests. Ughh. I really want some fresh air into the room.

I’ll be moving into the dorm in late-August… been packing, and preparing. Hopefully it will turn out okay.
...got moved in.
I suppose it’s okay.
It’s whatev.
It took a lot to make that room feel like home.
It still really doesn’t.
Oh well.
Theres really no need to say that I “want” to live in a dorm. Its more like a…uh…reason to talk about it I guess. I have to. I only hope Ill have a good time and get to room with my best friend in the world.
I loved living in a dorm during college. There was always somebody around. I loved the fact that a party could be thrown together in just a short while. Having an awesome roommate for one year helped. I also liked living alone.
I do regret not moving to a student apartment for at least a year, though. I think I would have felt more independent by the time I graduated from college.
sugarstar2184 is happy!
I know i’m going to be 22 when this finally happens.. maybe even 23. But i really want to experience it.
