stage a play

I went to see Jollyship the Whiz-Bang at the Ars Nova Theater and thought, “I could have done that!”

Then a friend of mine got her musical into the NYC Fringe Festival. When I congratulated her, I told her that I’d like to put on a stage show. Her advice was don’t do it. It’s too much work and lost sleep. That made me feel better. I still want to do this, but I’m no longer so envious.

I have an idea for the subject and the form but what an undertaking. I suppose I could write the script in the cracks between everything else that I have going on.

The theater didn’t go for our idea for a stage show. That’s okay, because another idea that my wife submitted is going into production there in April

The wife and I submitted a proposal to the Magnet Theater for our stage show. We’re shooting for a spot in the spring line up.

1) translate respecting rime scheme
2) get some people together
3) design decor, costumes, etc.
4) check copyrightstuff etc.
5) start rehearsing
6) have it on stage by haloween next year

I’ve acted on stage before, many times in performance art pieces and once in a short comedic play.

Now I would like to do a funny, two-person show with my wife. We’ve performed short comedy segments together, and we always thought that if we could string enough of them together, we would have a stage show.

Most of our act is singing. So far we have two songs in the can, with a couple more in the pipeline.
