DocD is having a rainy day.
I’ve performed twice on Tokyo’s Broadway. The first time was at the Takarazuka Theater in a play call Edo no Butokai (Tokyo Ball). I played a US military officer in love with a Japanese girl of ill repute. The second time was at the Imperial Theater in a play called Tojin Okichi, based on a true story about the first American ambassador to Japan, Towsend Harris. John Wayne played him in the film version, The Barbarian and the Geisha. I was the barbarian.

Shy all my life. Overweight all my life. Live in a very small town with not even a movie theater in it and only 3 stoplights. SO unless I want to go two hours to Nashville or to Memphis I pretty much just hold onto my dream. One day maybe I can have that shot. I just wish this little town or even the towns around here would try to do something in the arts. Insted of just sports. You don’t do sports here noone really cares about you. However maybe, just maybe I will be able to do this. _ Lets hope so anyway.

It’s so hard to get roles on Broadway and you have to be absolutely amazing at everything you do; sing, dance and act. But it’s even harder for me as an asian (ethnic girl!). The only roles I can imagine are in Miss Saigon and Les Miserables. I love broadway and I don’t want to be steoreotyped as Kim. My dream roles are the roles that i don’t look right for, such as Glinda (Wicked), Rizzo (Grease), Mimi (RENT). It’s quite depressing. But I’m working so hard for this.
I want to prove that you don’t have to be a certain race to play a certain role. Make up does wonders.

After I get a degree in musical theater i’m going to try.
It’s the only thing I want to do with my life!
I do understand how impossible it is to get roles.
I’m not uninformed.

today we had mock auditions in ms. casserly’s class [kerry casserly, google her…she’s been in a bunch of stuff on broadway…and she’s worked with…get ready…BOB FOSSE!!!] ha. she was like…”you can work” and i didn’t really know what she meant, and then she was like “you can work in this business.” and it was soooooooooo good.
and then one of my peers who i look up to a great deal…she’s like the mother of our track said that she could see me on broadway which totally made my day.

I have an audition in Chicago next week for the replacement cast of the BROADWAY cast of Spring Awakening. If I make this it would put me right in NYC!
I am not getting my hopes up too much because, honestly, how many freaking people will be at the audition…
still though, this will be the closest I’ve gotten and I am excited…and really nervous.
I am also auditioning for the Chicago cast of Wicked this Sunday, which would also be amazing. I would be so happy with even that.
