How I did it: I took a cooking class in Puebla, Mexico with my boyfriend over spring break. We found the trip on luxurylink.com (under the food and wine trips). It was a lot of fun, and we got a great deal for how nice our stay was. The other couples cancelled, so we had private lessons! Turns out our chef was one of the most acclaimed chefs in Mexico. The lessons were 3 hours each, consisting of an appetizer, the meal, and a dessert. The first thing w… Read how I did it…
How I did it: This was a fun experience. I took a Hearty Winter Pasta class at the local Sur La Table. It was a fun and interesting experience. I learned some new recipes and met some nice people. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed using all the cool knives, cookware, and gadgets that they had there. I'm scheduled to take an appetizers class in a month or so - I'm looking forward to that. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I was visiting my parents and my Mom suggested we go to a cooking class at the local kitchen store. I jumped at the chance, especially since it was free. It was put on by a local chef and he was fantastic. He demoed how to throw a meal together that is quick, easy, and delicious, plus he had a great personality so we all had a great time. We went to his restaurant that night too, soooo worth it! Read how I did it…
How I did it: For my birthday gift, my boyfriend got us a couple's cooking class. The school has online registration and lets you preview the menu before you sign up. They provide everything and let you take the recipes home. It was so much fun. We're already looking into taking another. Read how I did it…

So I had my knife skills class tonight! Very informative…besides learning how to properly hold a knife (always good…) we got a bunch of secrets about how to work with various veggies, herbs, and fruits. Then we ate it all. I definitely feel much more confident about not cutting up my violin-playing fingers now!
Last week I had my seafood class. Very useful was learning how to cook a whole fish, and what to do with it! (removing backbone etc.) One of the appetizer courses was unfortunately octopus, but, well, you can’t win them all!
PS: for those confused about the photo….read comments on my previous post :)

for a Mediterranean Seafood class next week. I’ve been having pretty good luck cooking on my own lately, but cooking fish well often eludes me. I would also like to take a knife skills class before I mark this goal done.
Update: I’m now signed up for a knife skills class on Sept. 2nd!
I really enjoy cooking. I don’t know if I can afford to go to culinary arts school, but I’d love to cook beautiful, delicious food. I would love to do this as a career even, but definitely very passionate about my hobby.
upallnight is living in Lakeview.
A co-worker did a two-day cooking bootcamp at Kendall College(kick-ass culinary school here in Chicago) and I’m considering taking a basic knife skills class there. I want to ease into this learning how to cook thing by taking a class that does NOT involve any actual cooking. :)

I’m sure there are classes available at the community center. I obviously can’t afford the $40K culinary art school, but I want to really focus on excelling in the kitchen. Cooking healthier, and expanding my pallet!
Sarah is overhauling her list
A group atmosphere would be better for me and I prefer being shown exactly what to do as opposed to reading about it. I ask a lot of questions, that’s why.
