I can’t get to sleep until 2 or 3am every night no matter how hard I try or if I take over the counter sleeping pills. Then I wake up every hour or so until 8 or 9am when I get up. Then I get tired in the afternoon and have to nap, which is probably what screws up my whole regime int he first place, but I’m so tired at 3pm!

don’t think anything for a while perhaps 20 min. sit in ur comfortable sleep position w/ ur hand on ur stomach in a place so such that u have the effect that when u inhale, u could feel ur stomach muscles tense up and stomach feel hard as u can. once u inhale and feel that ur stomach muscles are pretty hard, then that’s the time u know to exhale and keep doing this until u have the of effect of tensing ur muscles (just in a consistent way)
Have had chronic and severe insomnia for almost two years. Typically get only 2-3 hours per night. Have tried everything – Ambien, Lunesta, antidepressants, anti-anxiety, jasmine scent, Enya, deep breathing….
I know that everything in my life will be six shades brighter and richer once I start getting some real sleep!
Have heard all of the advice and recommended potions, etc., so please no more, but sympathy is welcomed!
Insomnia visits me occasionally, but I rarely have trouble sleeping these days. I suggest lots and lots of exercise, becoming a vegetarian, and reducing stress.

All of Pablo’s ideas are helpful . . . but if your insomnia is a function of your body chemistry (not just external stress), you may want to also think about asking your doctor for a prescription for Amitriptyline. This is an older antidepressant. Just 10 mg before bed generally helps regulate my hormonal balance & has no side effects (no grogginess, bad dreams or other problems). It’s a tiny dosage & you shouldn’t ever need to increase the amount. I’ve been taking it for 3.5 years.
1. No caffine after 12:00
2. No sugar after 15:00
3. No food after 19:00
4. Some sort of bedtime tea 30min before bed.
5. Exercise, exercise, exercise.
I still battle with the suger.
This is my formula. Much easier said than done.
Realize you’ll always be an insomniac or a recovering insomniac.
Also get up early every morning regardless of sleep.
