    Dickinson 2 years ago

My new book of poems clusters poets by name instead of theme shich was how my last book was arranged. I like reading a broad range of poems by a poet. I just finished the seciton on Emily Dickinson. I thought I realy liked her poems from my memory of what I had read of her in school. Now I think I just must have been exposed to her best poems because over all, I wasn’t as keen on her as I thought I was. Something I’m going to do now is research the poets history and critics’ thoughts about their poems along with reading the poems themselves. I think that will give me more on an insight on the poets and their poems. Dickinson had a sad, lonely life which is reflected in her poems.

Doubling my goal 2 years ago

I’m enjoying this goal of reading poems daily. I’ve found that I’m averaging at least two poems a day. I’m finding old favorites and learning I have a definite preference in style. I think once I finish this book which is an anthology of poems, I’m going to look for collections of some of my favorites.

Poem Reading Plan 2 years ago

Yesterday I bought the book “Best-Loved Poems.” I intend to read at least one a day, but since many are short, I may read more, for example yesterday I read 3 short poems. The second poem I read was “Pippa’s Song” by Robert Browning which ends “God’s in His heaven-all’s right with the world.” I’ve often heard that line but didn’t know it was written by Browning. I feel smarter already.
