Recently made a friend who is really into snowboarding. Well a few friends who are actually. And one is willing to take me this winter and teach me a little. Cannot wait!

How I did it: I went with this girl I'd recently started seeing. She wasn't super experienced, but it motivated me to go up and down the slopes with her. I rented a board the first time, fell a lot and worked at it. I ended up buying a board and boots, and I now have a fun activity to look forward to during the long winter months in Vermont. How I did it: With no experience, I took a lesson (about 1.5 hours). The lesson is a good investment. Spent the rest of the day on the beginner slopes, learning how to control the board. Read how I did it…
How I did it: We planned to go to Mt. Baldy. You just show up there with some money (around 80 $s) for the ski-lift ticket+snowboard rental+snowboard lesson. The hard part is getting enough troops to go with you. If you're the type who can take the initiative and motivate others, that helps. Read how I did it…

I use to skateboard, and i still can, so i thought that it would make perfect sense to see what im like on the slopes, when i can afford it that is.

I can’t believe I held onto the fear of learning to snowboard for 12 years. What a waste of time I could have been boarding! I absolutely loved it. I also caught on to the basics a lot quicker than I had anticipated. I’ve added a new addiction to my list. ;)
The picture is of me at Hoo-Doo yesterday for my real first time trying to snowboard. (Practicing turning in the shot.)

It looks like I might be hitting HooDoo Friday. We’ll see.
BTW, this goal was upgraded from my list waiting to make the main list. ;) Here’s the one and only entry I had listed there at the time:

Anyhow, so unexpectedly I ended up with a bunch of snowboarding gear yesterday. I’m literally set up to go NOW! M had a board for me that was an old one of his. Good for beginners, and honestly we’re about the same size so it should be fine. I already had the pants, jacket, hat, etc because of snowshoeing, but I ended up getting new gloves and thermals because they were on a great sale that I couldn’t refuse. We also got new bindings and boa style boots for me too. Love ‘em. Oh, and goggles. What am I missing to mention?
Anyway, so I’m set up to go! Oddly enough (but really not THAT odd for Bend), It’s dumping snow outside right now. We haven’t seen any in quite some time, but here it is. We might try to make time to hit Bachelor soon. If not, we’ll definitely be going to HooDoo either on Vendor Appreciation day in a couple weeks OR/AND some night boarding on HooDoo one of these coming up nights when we’re headed back home from over the pass on one of our regular trips.
WOO-HOO! And I thought this wouldn’t happen until next year at the earliest. Time to get over my horrible fear of hitting a tree! (I’m so not kidding either!)

How could I have once lived among “The Greatest Snow on Earth” and never snowboarded? That must be changed.
I’ve wanted to try snowboarding for a while but i always knew big groups that were going and i didn’t want to be a newbie in that kind of setting. But finally this winter my chance came along. I’ve only been once but it wasn’t too bad….although extremely painful, SO much fun. If it hadn’t hurt so bad I would have gone for loinger. I will definitely go again!!
