"I was forced into a corner"
How I did it: I was forced to pay it off with my newly cleared overdraft as I was turned down for a new card to balance transfer to, and the 0% interest free period was up. So really I've just shifted the debt again to my overdraft. I'll be re-adding that as a goal. Even though its just moved to a different place, I feel like I have gone back two steps in my progress.
..
Just called the credit card company to cancel my card and the talented people at the customer loyalty persuaded me to keep it to improve my credit scoring. They did mention that making the odd purchace wouldnt hurt either. No I bet it wont..
To be fair, its saved me cutting it up, which I was dreading yet looking forward to at the same time..
Oh well
Lessons & tips: Tips:
Dont get a credit card!
If you must, then control the spending, checking your balance every week.
Realise when you have a problem.
Realise if it is better to have that frivolous purchase, or a year of scrimping and saving to pay them off!
Resources: Online banking.
